Journey to My Passion

Creativity has always been in my blood. I was born with a mind that sees the world through its shapes and colors. It is with this abstract mind of mine that allows me to digest creativity and to flourish an idea out of thin air. It is a feeling that enraptures the essence of abstraction, in which I channel through my artwork,

It was in Middle School when I first discovered the idea of becoming an architect. I had been moved to an honors math class, and art was always my favorite hobby to participate in. During this time, my dad was involved in the design of our back yard. Dedication, passion, love, and expression are words I would describe my dad when it came to designing our home. I always looked up to him for putting in effort and time into our outdoor space. It was as if I saw a part of myself in him, that I wanted to flourish these qualities within myself. These were qualities I felt were on the edge of flourishment, I just needed a channel that will allow these qualities to shine.

In 7th grade, I decided I wanted to be an architect. I also decided I wanted to move schools. I toured Milken Community High school and visited a class that was learning to design and build models of houses. It was so easy for me to think of being an architect, even though I knew nothing about the subject, all I knew is that I wanted to be here taking this class- and I knew that time would come.

I entered Milken Community High School as a Freshman, and took a design course in preparation for the architecture courses. During this year, I discovered my fluidity in design. Through designing hand-crafted projects such as hats, stamps, and abstract sculptures, I felt an ease and freedom in the work that I was doing. Performing hands-on creative work allowed me to feel grounded in my own creativity.

In Sophomore year, I took my first architecture design course. I was a bit clueless in how I would design an entire house from scratch- but yet I went with the flow of the class.

My teacher helped me shape my floor plan to hold the value of which I see it as, and taught me ways in which I can think of architecture and design differently. Past this point, I felt unstoppable. My mind begun to think of ways in which I can interact and improve my designs. This was a feeling of freedom. The fact that I can depend on my mind to produce something I believe in and that I love was the best feeling I have ever felt. It was a feeling of passion.

I continued to participate in architecture courses in High School and with every year I felt more and more love towards designing and making a positive impact in the world. My teacher was one of the most gifted in teaching students how to depend on their own creativity. She has impacted me as a student and has encouraged me along the way.

To this day, creativity and art brings me freedom from my core. It opens my ability to express and unify with my world. Art and design is my passion. And passion is a whole-body whole-mind experience that is the very drive to which I will change the world.
